Centre Console Fridge for the Toyota Landcruiser: A Complete Buyer's Guide
If you run a 70 Series Landcruiser — 76 Wagon, 75/78 Troop Carrier, or a 79 single or dual cab — the cabin wastes the space between the seats. A centre console fridge turns that dead space into the most useful spot in the truck: a cold drink within arm's reach, your accessories wired and switched, and your tub or tray left free for everything else.
This guide covers what a fridge centre console is, exactly which one fits your Landcruiser, what your seats need to be for it to bolt in, and what it costs — and it clears up which Huracan consoles are fridge consoles and which are storage-only.
Quick answer
- A fridge centre console is a console with a custom tray built to hold a Bushman 15L upright fridge (or a similar-sized unit) between the front seats.
- Huracan Fabrication makes two fridge consoles in 1.6mm cold-rolled steel with an Aztec silver powder-coat: one for the 76 Wagon / 79 Dual Cab, and one for 75/78 Troop Carriers and the 79 Single Cab (1999–2016).
- They bolt straight in if you're running aftermarket touring seats or Falcon XR6 seats. You can still fit one on factory seats, but the OEM seat sliders need modifying to make room.
- Pricing starts at $345 for the console, or $1,190 with a Bushman 15L fridge included. Australian made.
- Two other 70 Series consoles we make — the GDJ70 automatic half-length console and the FJ79/LC76 storage console — are storage consoles, not fridge consoles (covered below).
What is a centre console fridge?
It's a centre console with a purpose-built cavity and tray sized for a portable upright fridge. Instead of the fridge living in the back on a slide or behind a drawer system, it sits between the driver and passenger — reachable on the move, and out of your load space.
It's especially popular in 70 Series Landcruisers because the factory console is small, the cabin leaves an obvious gap to reclaim, and these are working and touring trucks where tub space is precious.
Why fit one to your Landcruiser?
- Reclaim the cabin, not the tray. The fridge moves to otherwise-wasted space between the seats.
- Cold food and drink within reach — no pulling over or reaching into the back.
- Power and switch your rig. The 76 Wagon / 79 Dual Cab console includes 4 rocker-switch slots (sized for Air On Board switches) and three 30mm cutouts for 12V outlets, so you can run lights, a compressor or USB charging from the console.
- A tidier, more finished cabin than a fridge strapped to a seat or the floor.
Which fridge console fits my Landcruiser?
There are two steel fridge consoles, and the right one depends on your body style:
- 76 Series Wagon / 79 Series Dual Cab → the 76 Wagon / 79 Dual Cab fridge centre console. From $345, or $1,190 with a Bushman 15L fridge.
- 75 & 78 Series Troop Carriers, and 79 Series Single Cab (1999–2016) → the 78/79 Single Cab fridge centre console. This one is designed for trucks fitted with a Huracan Fabrication bench seat conversion kit. It is not compatible with the 75 Single Cab, or with 79 Single Cabs from 2017 on (the 5-star ANCAP models).
- Latest facelift models → the steel fridge consoles are not compatible.
Your seats decide how it fits
This is the part people miss. A fridge console mounts in the space your seats occupy, so the seats matter:
- Aftermarket touring seats or Falcon XR6 seats — the console bolts straight in, no modification needed.
- Factory seats — you can still fit the console, but the OEM seat sliders have to be modified to make room. Worth factoring into your install time and budget.
Which fridge fits a centre console?
The Huracan fridge consoles are built around a custom tray for a Bushman 15L upright fridge (or a similar-sized unit). When you order, you can add a Bushman 15L fridge that drops straight into the tray — bundled pricing brings the console-plus-fridge to $1,190.
A couple of rules that hold regardless:
- Upright, not chest. A top-opening chest fridge won't suit a between-seats console.
- Match the footprint. The tray is sized for the 15L Bushman; if you're fitting a different unit, check its dimensions against the tray first.
Material and build
- 1.6mm cold-rolled steel with a durable Aztec silver powder-coat — built for off-road use, not flimsy plastic.
- 2 stainless steel cup holders included.
- 76 Wagon / 79 Dual Cab console adds 4 rocker-switch slots (Air On Board fitment) and three 30mm 12V outlet cutouts. Note the switches and outlets aren't included — they're widely available online, so you can spec them to suit your setup.
Installation
Fitment is model-specific, so follow the instructions for your exact unit. Two things worth knowing up front:
- Your seats determine the fit. Touring or XR6 seats let the fridge console bolt straight in; factory seats need the OEM sliders modified (see above).
- The single-cab fridge console is designed for trucks already running a Huracan bench seat conversion — confirm that's in place before ordering.
Not after a fridge? Our other 70 Series consoles
Two more consoles in the range often get mixed up with the fridge consoles. Neither holds a fridge — they're storage consoles:
- GDJ70 Automatic half-length console — $775. Not a fridge console. It's a half-length storage console built to match the factory look (black vinyl, a padded lid at armrest height, a carpeted storage compartment, cup holders and a coin tray), for the 79 Dual Cab, 76 Wagon and 79 DPF Single Cab with the 4-cylinder GDJ automatic only. It fits to factory mounting points with no drilling into the cab, but you must cut the factory console in half to install it (instructions supplied).
- 70 Series (FJ79/LC76) storage console — $1,100. Not a fridge console. A full-length ABS storage organiser with a built-in USB port, for the 70 Series Double Cab (2007–2021).
Frequently asked questions
What fridge fits in a Landcruiser centre console?
The Huracan consoles are built for a Bushman 15L upright fridge (or a similar-sized unit), which sits in a custom tray. You can add a Bushman 15L when you order.
Does a centre console fridge fit a 79 Series Dual Cab?
Yes — the 76 Wagon / 79 Dual Cab steel console is made for it. From $345, or $1,190 with a Bushman 15L fridge included.
Do I need aftermarket seats to fit a fridge console?
The fridge console bolts straight in if you have aftermarket touring seats or Falcon XR6 seats. You can still fit it with your factory seats, but the OEM seat sliders need to be modified to make room.
Can I fit one in a single cab or Troop Carrier?
Yes — the 78/79 Single Cab console suits 75 and 78 Troop Carriers and the 79 Single Cab (1999–2016), when the truck has a Huracan bench seat conversion. It does not fit the 75 Single Cab or 2017-on (5-star ANCAP) 79 Single Cabs.
Is the GDJ70 automatic console a fridge console?
No. The GDJ70 half-length console ($775) is a storage console for the 79 Dual Cab, 76 Wagon and 79 DPF Single Cab with the 4-cylinder GDJ automatic. It has a padded armrest lid and a carpeted storage compartment, not a fridge tray. It fits to factory points with no drilling, but requires cutting the factory console in half.
Will it fit the new facelift 70 Series?
No — the steel fridge consoles are not compatible with the latest facelift models.
How much does a centre console fridge cost?
From $345 for the console on its own, or $1,190 with a Bushman 15L fridge included. For reference, the non-fridge consoles are $775 for the GDJ70 automatic half-length console and $1,100 for the 70 Series ABS storage console.
Are they Australian made?
Yes — Huracan Fabrication's consoles are Australian made.
Ready to reclaim your cabin?
For a fridge setup, the two steel fridge consoles are the 76 Wagon / 79 Dual Cab fridge console and the Troop Carrier / 79 Single Cab fridge console. After storage instead? See the GDJ70 automatic half-length console or the FJ79/LC76 storage console.
